In 2003 a research team formed to create the Arthur Lipsett Project. Independent producer Dennis Mohr, film director Martin Lavut and biographer/producer Amelia Does are working together on a documentary about the late Canadian experimental filmmaker, Arthur Lipsett, in cooperation with the Bravo! channel. The Arthur Lipsett project also consists of a biography research project (interviews, biography book), a web based information source (netspaceproject.com and public pictures.com later in 2005) as well as a future project to have Lipsett’s photos shown in galleries and published.
Amelia Does has completed three years of original primary research on Lipsett’s life and works. She is currently developing a biography of Lipsett to publish in the future and is researching for and co-producing the Lipsett documentary for Bravo! and Public Pictures. (contact info here)
Dennis Mohr recently competed his first documentary film, titled Reflections on a Thoughtographic Mind (2004), for his production company, Public Pictures. Mohr is interested in personal stories, enigmatic characters and the visual image. He has been interested in making a film about Lipsett for over a decade, and spearheaded the documentary aspect of the Arthur Lipsett Project.
Martin Lavut has had a prolific career as a documentary and feature film director and actor for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and Galafilm. One of his best-known films is the documentary Without a Life There Is No Hobby (1973). His most recent film, After Darwin, won a Gemini Award in 2000. His interest in creating a film on Lipsett is personal; he was Arthur’s best friend.
Lois Siegel completes the team as consulting producer. Siegel is an award-winning filmmaker who knew Lipsett personally in his later years. Please see this link to her article on Lipsett from 1986, A Clown Outside the Circus.
