N-zone
N-zone was Arthurs last production at the NFB. It is a collage of images, Lipsett-style, however the pace and tones of the editing and images are different. The sounds come out of the mix in a less whimsical, yet still unpredictable, way. There is silence and time in which to contemplate the images, which are less chaotic than usual. The tone is meditative, yet sudden, angry, growling voices sometimes catch the viewer unaware, drawing strange connections between linking images and overlapped sounds. Because of N-zones dense structure and almost impenetrable meaning, the film has been described as a labyrinth. It is truly a zone, like a confusing, yet mapped-out, physical space. However, the most striking and accurate description of the film, in an article by Ihor Holubizky, describes Lipsett as a holy man whispering about the solitude of the self.
