•-- IN MEMORY OF FRANK (SEPTEMBER 8, 1952 - APRIL 25, 2001)
A memorial. Below are a random selection of his pieces, and photos from his life.

introduction

Frank van Mens, a being with such broad horizons, passed away on April 25 in Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands. He was 48 years old. Spirts such as these are rare in life and worth nurturing and cultivating for they form the essence of any culture and can only improve our standing in this troubled world of ours.

A fine artist by any standards, Frank more importantly showed us the need to humble ourselves, to recognize inequity everywhere, and to be vigilant in these troubled times, and all this with a measure of love and respect for others. As a result he lived on a tightrope, a highwire performer who truly risked his life. Long live the Spirit of Frank van Mens who will be missed but never forgotten.

"With many people sacrificed
With the earth and water and plants and animals sacrificed
All to become rich
I am still there where I can be outside but I have to fight much
harder and it becomes very exhausting."

"There they reached the end of all
They are only adjusting improving or extending more of the same
I try to resist - to say no!"

"For me this whole western culture is not the culture of life
The culture of all that lives it is not
There is no eye for the uniqueness of each being
There is no relation."
"The red eyes are looking through the surface
The red eyes are looking to the essence
Our ego is but a varnish a certain color not the essence
Again! What is the purpose of human kind?
The fields of energy - have to find harmony - to reach a state of
harmony - we have to open our minds.
What is our life without an horizon without a higher aim?
Are we some accidental pieces of meat only?"

"I propose to make a mountain of glass
Glass is the symbol of the transitory
Glass coming from sand - goes back to sand
All this kind of ideas are only first ideas that come into my mind
I'll dig deeper from now on."

In a province town of the netherlands in january - so small as everything is and grey - suffocating and the people are the same nothing may arise - light is danger - in such world one becomes crazy or depressed or there is the possibility if you are lucky to run away.
